Community S2 Ep14 Advanced Dungeons and Dragons
Community is a strange beast in that its best writing hurts its mediocre stuff. Its funny but not consistently hilarious (Parks and Recreation style) and when it does have its high points such as the Advanced Dungeons and Dragons episode, no other show comes close to its brilliance. The problem is the shade of silliness the show has come to wear hurts the episodes in which they are trying to move their characters and story along. It has made me feel less for the characters and more for the crazy situations they get themselves into.  My fear is that when they run out of genre specific wackiness, the show will lose its thunder unless they pull a Gervais and kick it to a 2-3 season minimum. Its NBC though and rumor has it that they suck as a network, so they will milk whatever shows they can until the funny is gone and that’s sad.
The way I see Thursday night comedy now is thus:
Parks and Recreation is watched for the writing, Amy Poehler, Nick Offerman and Aziz Ansari with special nods to Rob Lowe and Chris Pratt. Just an all-star show.
30 Rock because of anything Alec Baldwin says.
The Office because its there and we have to.
Community in hopes of great episodes.
And then those other two not so funny shows Outsourced and Perfect Couples.
